Do I need to wash the nappy covers each time I change baby?
Yes - everytime you change baby you need to wash both the nappy cover, and insert, as the micro-suede lining of the nappy cover is the part sitting next to baby’s skin.
Do I need to change my baby more often when using cloth nappies?
Whether baby is using cloth or disposable nappies, you should change her every 2 to 3 hours to keep their skin healthy and to prevent nappy rash. Each cloth nappy should be used for a maximum of 4 hours in the day.
At night, we recommend using our Tri-Fold Bamboo Night Inserts. This will increase the absorption power of the nappy, allowing baby to sleep through.
How do I handle Wet / Soiled nappies during outings?
We have made using your cloth nappies ‘on the go’ easy with the EcoNaps Wet/Dry bag. This is a bag with a waterproof inner lining and zip to keep any odour and wetness in. After changing baby’s wet nappy, simply roll up and fasten the snaps, and put it into the wet bag and bring home for laundry.
Soiled nappies: Tip any solids into a toilet, before rolling up nappy, and placing in a Wet Bag.
Can I use EcoNaps Cloth Nappies at night?
Yes. Lots of mums use our nappies at night. We recommend investing in some of our Tri-Fold Bamboo Night Inserts. These give baby 12-layers of bamboo absorption, to ensure they stay dry for a good nights sleep.
Do I need to use liners?
You won't need a liner but you may prefer to use one. Our nappies have a stay-dry layer, so it draws moisture away from baby's skin onto the insert. You may find it easier to use a liner when dealing with solids, as they catch most of it and you can just flush it away. Click here to view our Mess-Free Bamboo Flushable Liners.
Can I use nappy creams with EcoNaps Cloth Nappies?
Our cloth nappies are designed to be breathable and stay-dry, so there is no need for nappy cream. Just remember to change your baby immediately after a poo.
If your baby does develop nappy rash and you wish to treat this with nappy cream, we recommend using our EcoNaps Mess-Free Flushable Liners between your babies bottom and the nappy, to avoid the cream coming into contact with the fabric. Also give your baby plenty of bare-bottom time.
You may need to do a strip wash (see Washing Instructions) if your nappies become less absorbent.
Why do I need to Pre-wash EcoNaps Cloth Nappies?
Prewashing is important to let your new cloth nappy and inserts attain good absorbency. Ideally, pre-wash at least 3 times before first use.
For each pre-wash, wash the nappy with inserts and let them dry, before the next pre-wash.
What detergent should I use?
We recommend using a natural, chemical-free laundry detergent. Ensure there is no bleach, fabric softener or enzymes in the detergent, and no nasty chemicals that may irritate your baby’s skin.
Why isn’t bleach or fabric softener allowed?
Bleach breaks down the fibers in the cloth nappies, shortening their lifespan. Fabric softener coats the nappy fabric, making them repel fluids and can lead to leaks.
How do I get rid of stains on my cloth nappies?
Newborn babies tend to have yellowish poo, which may stain the cloth nappies.
Sunlight is a natural way of getting rid of stains easily, so simply dry the nappies and inserts in the sun. If stains are still visible after they are dry, leave them in the sun for another day or so.
